New Delhi: Shefali Shah, the actor who didn’t essay roles as per the usual rule books, publishes her memoir-in-essays ‘The Audacity of Being’. Shah, who mesmerised the Indian audience over three decades with outstanding performances in movies like ‘Waqt’,  ‘Monsoon Wedding’, ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’, ‘Once Again ’, and series like ‘Delhi Crime ’, and so on, in her debut book too shatters convention and chronology. She proclaims that she wants her book to be ‘as chaotic and messy as her mind’.

Across the 200 pages, she pours out her experience as an actor, a person, her friendships, hardships too. While mentioning her acting career, Shah shares her thoughts on how the industry is often uncertain about how to place a female actor after a certain age in a plot. She doesn’t hesitate to open up about her divorce and remarriage, too.

About the process of writing the book, she says she didn’t want to copy anyone or any particular style. "I was very clear that I did not want it to sound like a memoir or autobiography. I do not want it to be chronologically placed from, like, I was born in Santa Cruz and stuff like that. That's how it's taken shape," Shah told PTI in an interview.

The book ‘The Audacity of Being’ is published by Bloomsbury India and is priced at Rs 599. It is available for purchase across online and offline stores.
